Buddha head

                                                                      This outstandingly carved head comes from a temple
                                                                      or chapel in a Buddhist monastery in northern China,
                                                                      one of the first in a series of large monasteries
                                                                      founded in that region in the 5th and 6th centuries.
                                                                      The creation of these enormous monastic complexes
                                                                      ensued from the introduction of Buddhism from India
                                                                      by pilgrims and merchants.
