Maharao Sheodan Singh

The young prince depicted here is Sheodan Singh,
born in 1845, the only son of maharao Bane Singh
(1815-57) of Alwar, a principality of Rajasthan.
A patron of the arts, he commissioned paintings and
manuscripts from the very best artists of Delhi. Dressed
in white and gold, we see him here on the back of Highlights of the Collection
a splendid grey dappled horse sporting a harness
and reins made of fabric, gold and pearls.
