Designed to contain medicinal products or perfume,
this jar belongs to a set of Syrian-Egyptian earthenware
from the Mamluk period. The blue and white
decorations are characteristic of the artistic influence
Highlights of the Collection of Chinese Yuan earthenware (1279-1368), imported
into Egypt in great quantities in the late 14th century.
Further stylistic influences include the fleur-de-lis motif
of the central register, probably introduced into the
region by Italian merchants.
